Wisconsin has been da big cheese 'n dairy since da early 1920's, crankin’ out da cheese like nobody’s business. By 1940, da state made it official—“America’s Dairyland,” slap dat on a license plate 'n call it a day! Den, as part of ol' FDR's New Deal 'n 1937, he says, he says, “Hey, let’s use Eau Claire ta set milk prices fer da whole dang country! Ya know, dey are right der 'n da heart of da nation's dairy region 'n all.” So now we got dis “Eau Claire Rule”—da farder ya go from Eau Claire, da more ya pay fer yer milk, "Milk City" baby! Da Eau Claire Rule has become a part of Wisconsin culture as well as a myth of dairy farming 'n America. Nowadays, Eau Claire’s still churnin’ out dairy goodness wit family farms, cheese shops 'n enough cheese curds ta clog a dozen arteries.
